Dynamism of an F train

Dynamism of an F train

To describe the New York subway as a complex web is not really giving it proper consideration; it is more like a well-laid, multi-layered lattice, complex yet brilliantly straight forward. It is blunt and purposeful, utilitarian more than artful because it has to be, to connect this vast city in such a way that I touch down somewhere out in Queens and yet, by the time I actually emerge again to open air, I am standing in the Upper East Side. The subway is dirty and beautiful; trains are long silver snakes that fly between stations on creaky tracks, all squealing wheels and muffled announcements, a calico of passengers within the cars going to a thousand different destinations.
