empty roll

Today in the office ladies room, in the stall furthest from the door (everyone’s favorite) there was the usual empty toilet paper roll abandoned on the spool. Someone had been thoughtful enough to lean a new roll against the stall wall, perpindicular to the empty one, but no one had actually put it in place of the sad, naked brown cardboard spool. I realized that upon closer inspection, the empty roll read “Help me” in black ballpoint ink. I first saw it as a sad cry into the awkward bathroom silence, but as I completed the thought, I chuckled to myself: “Help me, I’m stuck in a toilet paper factory.”
