Last week, there was an unseasonably warm blast of weather, causing stubborn piles of snow to vaporize over a span of hours. Although the promised 65 degrees never really materialized and the sun barely revealed itself, the day was nonetheless spectacular. Snow melted at a rapid rate, but the moisture lingered, hovering above the shrinking piles, transforming even the dreariest urban corner into a heavenly state as an ethereal cloud settled over the city. At dusk, pedestrians silently marveled at each other as they walked across empty lots or along the Charles, each figure walking through a perfect black and white photo postcard of New England.
